How we help home builders

A local electrical supply partner for new home construction.

Building homes means ordering many of the same materials again and again, on a schedule set by framing, inspections and closings. Here’s how our team helps custom and production home builders across Michigan and beyond keep electrical materials organized, from the first takeoff to the final fixture.

Builder reviewing electrical plans inside a framed new home
  1. Whole-house material quotes from your plans

Send a set of plans, your electrician’s takeoff or your own material list. Our team works through it line by line: NM-B cable by gauge, device and fixture boxes, the service and panel, breakers, devices, wall plates and lighting.

If something is unclear, such as a fixture without a part number or a panel without a breaker count, we’ll ask before we price it, so the quote matches what the house actually needs.

  2. Quotes organized by model, elevation or phase

Production and semi-custom builders often build the same floor plans many times. Tell us your models, elevations and standard options, and we can organize the quote the same way, which makes pricing the next start on a familiar plan simpler.

Options such as a finished basement, an EV-ready garage or a generator inlet can be listed separately and added to the homes that include them.

  3. Service entrance, panels and breakers

Every new home needs a service entrance and a panel that pass inspection. We help builders source meter sockets, meter-main combinations, load centers, main breakers, and AFCI, GFCI and dual-function breakers where your plans call for them, along with service entrance cable and grounding materials.

Include the service size, panel brand and your utility’s metering requirements so the breakers and meter equipment match.

  4. Trim-out devices that match buyer selections

Trim-out is where buyer choices show up: standard or decorator devices, color, USB receptacles, dimmers, smart switches and matching wall plates. New homes also typically need tamper-resistant receptacles, weather-resistant receptacles outdoors and GFCI protection in specific locations.

Send the device schedule or selection sheet for each home, and we’ll quote devices and plates that match.

  5. Lighting packages, from standard to decorative

Lighting is in our name. We can quote a standard lighting package for each model, such as recessed lights, bath vanity lights, closet fixtures and exterior coach lights, then add buyer upgrades like chandeliers, pendants and ceiling fans.

Buyers and designers can see fixtures in person at our Warren and Waterford Township branches before they choose.

  6. Generators, EV charging and home upgrades

More buyers are asking for backup power and EV charging. Excel supplies standby generators, automatic transfer switches, generator inlets and EV charging equipment, plus data, coax and low-voltage cable for homes wired for internet, TV and security.

Tell us which homes include each upgrade, the generator size in kW and the charger amperage, and we’ll add them to the quote.

  7. Working with your electrical contractor

Many builders let their electrical contractor order materials. Excel works with electrical contractors every day, so your electrician can bring the takeoff to the counter or send it through the Quote Center. Builders and electricians can work with the same local team on the same project.

  8. Pickup or jobsite delivery

Pick up materials at our Warren or Waterford Township branch with will call pickup, or have them delivered to the job with jobsite delivery.

Tell us whether you want materials released by house or by phase. Delivery details are confirmed with each order.

Builder questions

Can you quote a whole house from plans?

Yes. Upload plans, a takeoff or a material list with the quote form on this page, or bring them to either branch. Our team will review the scope and follow up with any questions before preparing the quote.

Can the quote be organized by model or phase?

Tell us how you build, whether that is by model, elevation, lot or phase, and include your start dates. We will work with you on how the quote is organized for your schedule.

Do you work with custom builders or only production builders?

Both. Whether you build one custom home a year or a subdivision of production homes, send the plans or material list and our team will help you source the electrical and lighting materials for the project.

How does builder pricing work?

Pricing is quoted for each project based on the products, quantities and schedule. Trade account customers may see pricing that differs from the website. Open a trade account to get started.

What should I include in a new construction electrical quote request?

The most useful details are the plans or a takeoff, the model or elevation, the number of homes, the service size and panel brand, device and lighting selections, brand preferences, the job site address and your start dates. Send what you have, and we’ll ask about anything missing.

Do you carry tamper-resistant receptacles and AFCI breakers for new homes?

We supply tamper-resistant, weather-resistant and GFCI receptacles, as well as AFCI, GFCI and dual-function breakers for common residential panel brands. Include your panel brand and quantities so we can confirm the right parts. Your electrician and local inspector determine what your project requires.

Can you supply generators and EV chargers for buyer upgrades?

Yes. We supply standby generators, transfer switches and EV charging equipment. Tell us which homes include each upgrade, the generator size and the charger amperage, and we’ll include them in the quote.

Can my electrician order materials for my project?

Yes. Your electrical contractor can work with the same Excel team at either branch or through the Quote Center. Learn more on our electrical contractors page.

Can I pick up materials or have them delivered?

You can pick up at our Warren or Waterford Township branch, or ask about delivery to your job site. Delivery details are confirmed with each order.

Can my buyers look at lighting at your branches?

Yes. Both branches have lighting on display. Send the selections by lot or model so they can be quoted with the rest of the house.
